Farm Girl Writes About......Water, Lots of Water
In the duck pen, the loudest place on the farm, white feathers cover everything. Below the feathery
surface is cracked, dry, thirsty earth. Mom says that ducks need water; boy is that an understatement! Mom and I need to change their pool water three times a day, their drinking water twice a day, and water them once a day! We water the ducks by putting the hose on medium and thoroughly soaking them. While we water them they stand at attention; if they don’t get enough water they flap their wings and quack impatiently.
The ducks are the only animals that we don’t put in every night, because they make a big fuss, and it takes three people to get them in their house! Every time we walk by the ducks the ducks bombard us with loud, obnoxious quacks. Twenty-four of them make as much noise as 100 of them should make.
The ducks might be a lot of work but they do taste good.
Peace to ya,
Farm Girl
