First Farmer's Market Day 2006

May 27, 2006--Today was the first day of the Millbrook Farmer's Market for the 2006 season.  Winnie opened up her stand with 14 dozenmay_2006_farmers_market_014_overview copy.jpg
Millbrook Farmer's Market
Araucana eggs at 9:00 a.m.  By 10:30 a.m. Winnie's Eggs had sold out.  Winnie's Eggs is a division of Little House Farm and it had a very good day; Winnie even received a $1.00 tip from one of her customers!

Part of the point of selling the eggs at the farmer's market is to bring local products to the community, but it also gives Blair and Ethan the chance to teach Winnie about work, the value of money and contributing to a cause in this case her school.  This is no easy feat.  Unlike the military, Winnie believes in working 10 minutes on and 50 minutes off.   The 50 minutes off are generally spent walking around the market visiting her friends at other stands and deciding how she will spend her "hard earned" money or at South Mountain Woodcraft's art activity table.    So one of us usually mans the stand and the others spend their time hunting her down.  As you can imagine this makes for a busy morning.

When we sold out and were packing to leave Winnie took her money and bought a small bouquet of flowers, a soap in the shape of a rooster, a soap stand and a fruit tart.  Somehow I think more money was left at the market than went into the bank, but she was happy and dangerous.

Today was a milestone for another reason--we launched our web site and passed out postcards with our new logo.  Hopefully people will enjoy reading about life on a sustainable farm, sharing with the community and our Millbrook neighbors.
