A Cat Comes Looking for a Home
So, the household now has two cats Tristen and Bindi2 in addition to 50 odd chickens, roosters, dogs and so on. Well there's always room for one more right?
Tristen, a light blond tabby and Bindi2 a part Main Coon grey tabby live the life of Riley roaming the farm, chasing birds and mice, communing with nature and watching cat TV (aka observing the chickens). We figure that in the process of just their daily constitutions Tristen and Bindi2 were putting out the word to all neighborhood strays that Little House Farm was the end all and be all. Soon enough (and sure enough) an orangey, blond tabby showed up at the front door. Poor Blair thought she was seeing double because she was sure she just saw Tristen inside the house, but no there was an exact orangey, blond look-alike waiting to be let in. This is no ordinary cat, he didn't go to the back door begging to come in, he was waiting at the front door like an invited guest. And of course, the two who extended the invitation were suddenly scarce.
Well Blair and Winnie fell in love at first sight, but the new arrival had had a tough life up till then. He was so skinny, missing many of his teeth, his paws full of calluses and his coat the worse for wear. After feeding him and giving him fluids and hating to do it, but not knowing the cat, Blair made him comfortable outside just for that night. The next morning she took him to the vet--he must have known that he really lucked in because he stayed on the front porch all night long. The vet gave him shots and tested for all of the appropriate diseases and Blair and Winnie brought him home, naming him Marmalade for the color of his coat. Marmalade slept for days awakening only to catch up on what must have been many missed meals.
After a couple of weeks he started to come around and explore the house and get to know the family including Aunt HaHa and Louie. One thing though, Marmalade stayed clear away from any of the doors to the house....he wasn't leaving. Mistakenly, Aunt HaHa thought that he might leave once Spring arrived because of his kinda tough, independent exterior. Several months later and he has become a tightly knit member of the household, but he has learned to explore the farm dashing around, but always coming back not more than a couple of hours later.
As you can tell we are both cat and dog people, but I have to say that those cats are an interesting species and Marmalade pretty much takes the cake. Each day brings a more comfortable, happy cat and a story!
